The Bumi Hills Anti-Poaching Unit (BHAPU) was formed several years ago, in 2009, with great success, and the Foundation was borne through the efforts and vision of the work that BHAPU does each day.
BHAPU is the Foundation’s on-the-ground team that takes direct action to conserve and protect the wildlife and environment within an area of 150 square kilometers of land and 150 square kilometers of water via Lake Kariba.
During their first 4 years of operation, the Bumi Hills Anti-Poaching Unit achieved remarkable success against the apparent threats in the area, predominantly the trapping of mammals using wire snares and illegal netting of fish in the lake.
The poaching situation has evolved into a more serious threat recently, with armed gangs operating within the wildlife area and surrounding hunting areas, targeting primarily elephant for their ivory, but also other large mammal species to supply the lucrative bushmeat trade.
The Wild Co will be aiding the Bumi Hills Foundation and BHAPU through the creation of a new website as well as the ongoing management and deployment of their digital marketing strategy and fundraising strategy going forward. An exciting partnership with a truly authentic organization that is doing important work in their important wildlife and ecological corner of Zimbabwe.
